Creating a Healthy Home in Maryland
The Department of Housing and Community Development administers a range of
programs that can help potential and
existing homeowners create a healthy home. A healthy home includes a safe
mortgage, energy efficiency, and a healthy environment.
Safe Mortgages:
DHCD offers safe mortgages with downpayment
assistance options for new homebuyers with its Maryland Mortgage Program (MMP). In addition, DHCD has created two refinance mortgage products and one short term gap loan program for homeowners who may have financed their homes with high cost or unconventional loans or who may be facing foreclosure.
Homeowners and homebuyers may also be interested in the Ground Rent Loan
program that can help finance the
purchase of a ground rent if applicable.
Energy Efficiency:
Maryland’s weatherization program provides eligible low-income households
through the utilization of energy
conservation measures in their dwelling units.
Healthy Environment:
Reduce the risk of lead paint poisoning through the lead hazard reduction grant
and loan program. It helps homeowners and
landlords lessen the risk of lead poisoning and preserve the housing stock by
reducing or eliminating lead-based paint hazards.
